21.10.2014 LISTEN

The National Democratic Congress will hold an emergency National Executive Committee meeting at the party's headquarters in Accra today.

The NEC which is the second highest decision making of the governing party is expected to address a number of key issues hindering the smooth execution of the party's calendar.

The meeting will among other things discuss, an out of court settlement of the case pending before a Kumasi High Court which has placed an injunction on the party's congress.

It will also draw a timetable for the party's regional and national congresses.

The party returns to court on the October 27th with a proposal for an out of court settlement with one of its members, Njonolah Linus who has dragged the national executives to the Kumasi High Court for overstaying their 4 year mandate.

The party's regional and National Executive elections originally slated for the ending of this month has ben thrown into jeopardy as a result of this and many other court cases at the constituency level of the party.

However speaking to Live News' Ekow Annan, Deputy General Secretary of the party, George Lawson expressed optimism that today's NEC meeting will address and deliberate on all challenges hampering the party's elections.

“We are going to deliberate on party matters, any matter that disturbs the party would be deliberated upon at the meeting. From branch, constituency, to regional and the national level. Any matter that is at the levels mentioned would be discussed, what has gone on, what is going on and what would go on,” he said.

Touching on the injunction place on internal elections of the party, Mr Lawson noted that “Personally I would like the matter to be resolved in a family way or manner. The national executive committee is the second highest decision making body, so once we all meet there I'm sure we would come to a consensus. If the matter is raised then we talk about it, arrive at a decision and make a pronouncement.”
