OCT 19, 2014 LISTEN

Engineers constructing the new interchange at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, will this evening pull down the second part of the pedestrian footbridge.

The demolition will begin at 9pm tonight.
One side of the bridge was demolished last week as contractors clear up space to facilitate the ongoing construction of the three-tier interchange.

The first phase of the three-tier interchange project is expected to be completed by the end of May, 2015.

The entire project is also expected to be completed by the end of 2016.

The total cost of the project is 74.88 million Euros and is being jointly financed with credit from the Brazilian Government and Government of Ghana.

Per the project design, the first of the project will link the Akasanoma Road to the Nsawam Road around the Vodafone Building.

It will also link the Nsawam Road to the Nkrumah Avenue, near the Ghana Commercial Bank building, as well as Ring Road Central to Ring Road West.

The roads will be given asphaltic concrete surface, with pedestrian walkways and bicycle paths.

JOYNEWS understands there'll be some road closures as a result of tonight's demolition.

The footbridge, which had  two walkways, a stair case and a ramp for  disabled persons, was constructed about nine years ago.
