Accra, Oct. 1, GNA - MTN Ghana on Wednesday launched the second edition of the 'MTN Applications Challenge Version 2.0' to reward the most innovative and locally-relevant mobile applications developers.

This year's event which would be climaxed on December 10, is on the theme: 'Promoting innovative Local Apps Development.'

Mr Raul De, Chief Marketing Officer, MTN speaking at the launch said the event gives another opportunity to people with skills and talent to develop user friendly applications.

He said mobile application development is creating employment and generating income for an estimated 2.3 million people across the globe.

The Chief Marketing Officer said the Apps challenge forms part of a broader agenda of the MTN group to grow the App developer community in Africa and also increase local content.

'We believe that gradually we will catch up with the rest of the world in growing our economies through Mobile App,' he said.

He assured value customers of MTN's continued commitment to invest in relevant telecommunication technologies that would enrich their mobile telephony experience.

Mr De asked local developers to come out with innovative and user friendly applications that would satisfy local market needs and also take the opportunity to market their products on MTN platforms.

Mr Abdul Latif-Issahaka, Innovation Manager, MTN said entries for the competition would be accepted in three categories including Education, Lifestyle, Games and Entertainment.

He said each category would have a winner, who would receive a cash prize of GH¢15,000.00, a plaque and a year data plan from MTN.

The first runner up in each category would receive GH¢2,000.00 plus a data plan, while the second runner up would net GH¢1,000.00 plus data plan.

He said the overall winner for the competition, who would be selected from the category winner, would receive an additional GH¢5,000.00, making a total cash prize of GH¢20,000.00.
