Dr Quartey receiving the items from Isaac Ashai Odamtten
THE MEDICAL officer in- charge of the Tema Polyclinic, Dr Sally Quartey, has stated that a total of 283 cholera cases with three deaths have been recorded so far at the health facility.
According to her, the polyclinic recorded its first case in July and within six weeks, the number shot up to 74 but had reduced to 32 as at last week, adding that a total of 283 cases with three deaths had been seen at the facility.
She was of the view that her outfit had seen a reduction in the number of cholera cases recorded and was optimistic that the health facility would contain the outbreak.
Dr Quartey made this known when the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) presented items to some health facilities in Tema to help fight the cholera epidemic in the metropolis.
The items worth GH¢15,000 include 19 cholera beds, 60 plastic buckets, 15 Veronica buckets for handwashing, and 10 packets of nose masks.
The remaining items were 20 gallons of bleach, 20 gallons of Izar disinfectant, 60 plastic vomiting bowls, and 50 pairs of utility gloves.
Health facilities such as the Tema General Hospital, Tema Polyclinic and the Manhean Health Centre benefited from the items.
Presenting the items, Isaac Ashai Odamtten, the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Tema, disclosed that the assembly was making frantic effort to ensure the cholera outbreak in the metropolis is contained.
Mr Odamtten expressed appreciation to the medical officers in the metropolis for helping control the cholera epidemic, adding that his outfit would continue to partner with them to ensure a healthy society.
He indicated that the TMA was aware of the pressure health officials went through to cater for patients due to the over stretching of the limited health facilities in the metropolis, as effort would be put in place to ensure modern infrastructure development.
