Despite the cholera outbreak in Dekeme in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region, residents are still practicing open defecation.

The region has so far recorded about 255 cholera cases, out of which five people have been confirmed dead.

Joy News' correspondent, Ivy Setorgie reported the residents remain adamant to the life threatening situation and are still engaging in open defecation.

Elsewhere in the Ashanti region, city authorities have initiated moves to replace old and dilapidated public toilets with improved facilities to be built and managed by private partners.

Luv News' Erastus Asare Donkor reported that under the Public Toilet Modernization Scheme, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly seeks to explore public-private partnership to execute the project.

It is part of a long-term plan to check cholera and other sanitation related diseases.
