Teachers and Education workers in the Agortime- Ziope District of the Volta Region on Tuesday demonstrated against what they describe as the sordid state of affairs in the directorate of the Ghana Education Service under the directorship of Gershon Kofi Agyeman.

The teachers numbering about 400 and supported by staff of the GES, gathered at the District office of Education on the first day of reopening of schools, and demanded that Mr. Kofi Agyeman should be interdicted.

Patrick Tekpor, the Public Relations Officer of the GES in the District who spoke on behalf of the protestors claimed, Mr Agyeman has been an absentee director who once a while, spends between one to two hours in the office whenever he deemed it fit.

As a result, the agitating teachers and staff of the directorate said they could no longer work with Gershon Kofi Agyeman as the District Director of Education.

It took the intervention of the outgoing Regional Director of Education, Emmananuel Keteku and the incoming Regional Director, Alhaji Mohammed Haroon to calm tempers and disperse the teachers with a promise to address their grievances within one week.

According to Emmanuel Keteku, the Director General of the Service is aware of the situation and had promised to take an action to resolve the issues raised by the teachers within one week.
