A 29-year-old block manufacturer, Kowbla Sampson was yesterday sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court after he defiled a 10-year-old girl in the bush.

Sampson, who was put before a court presided over by Sedina Agbemava, admitted biting the right hand of the relation of the victim, who was the complainant in the case.

Sampson, who was convicted on his own plea, was convicted for a similar offence in 2000.

The facts of the case as presented by the prosecutor, ADP Sarah Ekua Acquah are that the complainant is a carpenter, who lives at Apraku Estate, Adenta with his family, including the victim, while the convict is a block manufacturer, who lives in the same vicinity.

She said on August 11, 2014, the victim was on an errand about three hundred metres away from her house when she saw the convict midway through the bush.

According to her, Sampson, who saw the victim in the bush, lured her into the bush, covered her mouth and forcibly had sexual intercourse with the victim.

The prosecutor noted that after the act, the convict gave the victim GH¢1.00 and warned her not to tell anybody so she kept the matter a secret.

Furthermore, she explained that a week later, the complainant detected changes in the way she walked and questioned her.

She subsequently said the block manufacturer had defiled her.

The police officer stated that the complainant and his wife went to arrest the Sampson, who bit the right of the carpenter, adding that a complaint was lodged with the police.

In addition, she said investigations revealed that Sampson was jailed for a similar offence in 2000 for 10 years.

The prosecutor noted that Sampson was arraigned before court after police investigations.
