Education, Government And Afoko As A Referee

Education, Government And Afoko As A Referee
26.08.2014 LISTEN

Did you watch the news about the 2014 WASSCE results? I bet you did. How did you feel, folk? Perhaps you felt sober except you want to say that you are unpatriotic, irresponsible and passive. What at all is happening to education in our great republic?

I watched the news with cynical eyes. Only twenty-eight percent (28%) or so of the total candidates who sat for the 2014 WASSCE can make it successfully to the tertiary institution. Is that so? Does it show the failure of our education system? What are the remedies being put in place by the government to address the situation? Is the government still playing politics with education in the wonderful republic? I bet they are.

What about the seventy-two percent (78%) or so of students who failed in the examination and cannot make it to the tertiary institutions? What is their fate? Where do they go from here?

The causes of this enormous failure cannot be overlooked so I have to, as a matter of urgency, draw your valued attention to a few of them, folk.

First of all is the issue of teacher motivation. I would not like to delve too much into this but at least we all know that teachers in our great republic are not treated well like their counterparts in other parts of the globe and successive governments have remained unconcerned about this most important aspect for a long time. UTAG and POTAG's case are proofs and of course, a whole lot of issues which I leave to God to judge. And do you know folk? Government has decided to freeze POTAG salaries for August. Will that solve the problem though? Absolutely no. Its rather insensitive on the part of the government.

What about the students themselves, folk? Can they pass exams after dancing Azonto all their school lives? Visit any Senior High School campus today folk and you will be surprised at the way they have been turned into hubs of moral decadence and senseless fashion grounds.

A host of causes can be held accountable but folk, I want to divert a little.

Is the government becoming insensitive to the plights of Ghanaians? If no, then why are they not listening to anyone? Why are they denying people their entitlements? Why should someone work for two to three years without payment of salaries? Has any government official ever suffered this? Then why are they inflicting ordinary Ghanaians with suffering and pain?

Don't they know other workers also have dependants? When at all will this injustice end? What is happening to the NDC government under president Mahama? Why are they being wicked? I say this with no regret or fear because we have had enough of their insensitivity. Why is corruption now the language they understand?

I am angry and wild at the government. I don't want to laugh but do you know folk? Paul Afoko, the NPP national chairman has succeeded in making me exercise my jaws. Were you at the boxing ring to witness the fight between some NPP Mayweathers? I bet you were.

Afoko's refereeing skills amazed me. But he was afraid of his own blood being shed. So quickly he went back to his office. Leaving the thugs to kill each other.
