PHILEMON YAW Sarpong, a day student of Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) in Kumasi, has been nabbed by the police for his involvement in a series of robberies at the school.

A female student of the school, who was recently robbed at knife point during prep time by Yaw Sarpong and his group, spotted him at school and blew the alarm.

The school authorities immediately called for his arrest and he later on mentioned Francis Opoku, who had been arrested at a police swoop, as his accomplice.

DCOP Kofi Boakye, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, made this known during a mammoth press conference held in Kumasi recently.

He said the female student was at prep studying with other six students (all borders) during prep time on July 13, this year.

From nowhere, Yaw Sarpong and Francis Opoku together with another person, now at large popped at the scene.

Armed by sharp knives, the three hoodlums at knife point, managed to rob the female student, who is the complainant, of her GH¢50 and a calculator.

DCOP Kofi Boakye said that the robbers fled the scene after the robbery spree which lasted for some few minutes, leaving the students in fright.

On July 14, 2014, the female student who was robbed by the hoodlums spotted Yaw Sarpong during school hours and hinted the school authorities who arrested him.

Yaw Sarpong during interrogation mentioned Francis Opoku, who had earlier been arrested in a police swoop, aimed at stopping robberies at OKESS, as one of his accomplices.

The female victim also identified Francis Opoku as one of the robbers who robbed her at knife point in the presence of other fear-stricken students.
