President John Dramani Mahama is at it again. This time, buying the conscience of our distinguished Members of the National House of Chiefs. This is a very subtle yet effective way to mute the voice of our traditional rulers in matters of utmost importance to the citizenry.

For the second time since he assumed the leadership of our nation, a nation that lacks basic infrastructure and resource allocation in critical areas like education and health, the president is at his lowest erb dolling out 13 luxury 4x4 vehicles costing the tax payers a whopping US $150, 00 each to the National House of Chiefs.

Prior to the 2012 elections, President Mahama made similar "donations" of 4x4 vehicles to all the paramount chiefs in the country. This was part of the grand scheme the National Democratic Congress adopted to shut up our chiefs to compromise on the election malpractices.

These dissipation of the resources of the state continues unabated despite the current economic downturn being experienced.

Our distinguished members of the national house of chiefs are being called upon to collectively reject the President's "gift" on principle as the country is currently reeling under deprivation of basic statutory developmental issues.

As custodians of our traditional values that hinges on integrity, honesty, humility and respect for the development of our country, our traditional rulers must not be seen to in bed with a government who principle is based on "yen tie obiaaa".

Until the advent of the slave trade and colonialism, our chiefs formed the pivotal leadership in protecting our lives and property. Unfortunately either by destiny or lack of fortitude or both, the rulership of our distinguished traditional leaders were relegated to the background and today some people are advocating for the abolishment of the entire chieftancy institution.

The membership of the National House of Chiefs must tread cautiously when dealing with governments. Let us remember that as a group of people we virtually sold our birth rights to the British under Maclean's administration when several coastal tribes submitted voluntarily to British protection.

Commander Hill proceeded to define the conditions and responsibilities of his jurisdiction over the protected areas. He negotiated a special treaty with a number of local chiefs that became known as the Bond of 1844.

The document obliged local leaders to submit serious crimes, such as murder and robbery, to British jurisdiction and laid the legal foundation for subsequent British colonization of the coastal area. On the face value, our chiefs had signed to offer our destiny as a people to the colonial masters.

Many behind the scenes negotiations and dealings might have been made between our traditional rulers and the British. On hindsight, whatever advantages we envisaged by surrendering to acquiesce to sleep on the same bed with British did more harm than good to us collectively.

There is no gain saying that our resources, both natural and human were used to benefit and develop the British society. Today, a country so endowed with resources are going round cup in hand begging these same people who purported to help us. And guess what, they are giving us such conditions for the least of repayable loan to perpetuate our continues reliance on them.

Today, President John Dramani Mahama is resorting to subtle policies aim primarily to remove the moral authorities of the National House of Chiefs' ability to critique his poor performance as the head of state.

At the rate President Mahama is eager to dissipate our resources in rampant abundance without recourse to prudent management in the utilization of our scarce financial resources, Ghana will grind to a complete halt if our chiefs lose the moral high grounds by accepting the corruptible 4x4 vehicles at the expense of government's provision of basic necessities in their various communities.

Our distinguished chiefs must read between the lines and acknowledged the public disclosure of these "gifts" is to woodwind them into obeisance. Vehicles given to Ministers of state, and other state officials are not paraded in the full glare of the public.

Thank you.
