Kumasi, July 16, GNA - Mr Akenten Appiah-Menkah, a Statesman, Lawyer and Industrialist, has rallied Ghanaians to work together to overcome rising corruption and division.

He said corrupt practices, ethnicity and political polarization, had become a serious threat to the nation's development efforts, and needed to be tackled head-on and with some urgency.

It is sickening for the people to look on with little or no concern as these social evils gain strong foothold in the society.

Mr Appiah-Menkah was speaking at a day's regional stakeholders' briefing on the constitutional review implementation process held at the Miklin Hotel in Kumasi.

It was jointly organized by the Constitutional Review Commission (CRC) and the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and in attendance were chiefs, representatives of the political parties, security agencies and civil society organizations.

Mr Appiah-Menkah said it was time people radically did away with selfishness, greed, gleeful money-grabbing, and worked for the common good of society.

Professor Emmanuel Victor O. Dankwa, Chairman of the Constitution Review Implementation Committee (CRIC), called for support for changes to the Constitution to move the nation forward.

He said a lot of ground work had been covered by the Committee, and deflected criticisms of the job done by some sections of the population.

Dr Ghesika Agambila, a member of the Committee said, proposed changes are meant to help address many of the problems facing the political administration, from the national to the local level.

'We have a culture that encourages corruption with most of our practices being at variance with the Constitution,' he noted.

He said it was pertinent for all to make sure that the spirit and letter of the Constitution was upheld.

Mr Samuel Sarpong, Ashanti Regional Minister, said the review exercise and subsequent implementation of the recommendations made, would put the national development agenda on a solid, firm and non-political track.
