A trader has been re-arrested after he escaped from police custody.

The accused person, Mohammed Ibrahim was charged with illegal possession of firearms in an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Ali Baba.

He pleaded not guilty and has been remanded into police custody while the case has been adjourned until July 4, 2014.

The facts of the case as presented by the prosecuting officer DSP E. Acheampong are that the complainant is a taxi driver while the accused person is a trader and resident of Kasoa.

He said on June 19, 2014, the accused person hired the services of the complainant from Abeka Lapaz to Mallam Junction, adding that when they got there, he again asked him to transport him to Ashaiman.

According to him, when the driver took the accused person to Ashiaman, he (the accused person) started acting in a bizarre manner and told him to take him back to Accra around 11 pm.

The complainant, who feared that he might be harmed by the trader, sent him to Airport Police Station.

In addition, he said the accused person was placed in custody after a locally manufactured gun, two rounds and 410 cartridges were found in his bag.

He admitted ownership of the firearms.
Explaining further, the police officer said the accused person managed to escape but he was eventually arrested.

The prosecutor noted that he was arraigned before court after police investigations.
