Candidate Caught With Phone Will Have Entire Results Cancelled—WAEC

The West African Examination Council WAEC has stated that the punishment for sending mobile phones to an examination hall for the ongoing basic education certificate examinations (BECE) would be an outright cancellation of all papers of a defaulting candidate.

This is contrary to previous arrangements where the pertinent paper on which the offense was committed would be affected.

The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is ongoing in all regions in the country.

Some four hundred and twenty two thousand nine hundred and forty six candidates are taking part in this year's Exams that begun on Monday.

According to the West African Examination Council (WAEC) this year recorded the highest number of candidates with the Ashanti Region presenting Eighty three thousand, eight hundred and fifty nine candidates, which is the national highest.

The Upper East region has the least number of candidates with twelve thousand three hundred and seventy two candidates.

The Public Relations Officer of WAEC Agnes Teye Cudjoe has assured that adequate measures have been put in place with the aim to reducing examination malpractices during the examinations.

Speaking on ultimate radio, she pointed out that the papers will take a five day period as compared to last year where the candidates took six days to complete their papers.

She indicated, 'this year, there wouldn't be a break between paper one and paper two of one subject. Students will have to write the full papers of each subject beginning with the written part and followed by the objective part' she explained.

This she said will mean that the candidates will write two full papers a day and finish all papers by Friday 20th June 2014.
