The Demise of Uncle P.V.Obeng-Another Case of Failed Response?
20.05.2014 LISTEN

It appears the angel of death has descended on Ghana, doing away with a number of very important personalities. Although Ghana had lost more of her illustrious men and women in the past, the recent losses are worrying. The fall of our former president, Prof. Mills of blessed memory will not go off our minds anytime soon.

17th May, 2014 could well be described as a black day for Ghana. If death could be fought, Uncle P.V was still physically powerful enough to fight. His wealth of experiences both in academia and in real life circumstances couldn't prevent him from leaving us. While the whole of Ghanaians wished uncle P.V was an immortal, our gracious Lord needed him the most. Uncle, we'll forever miss you.

As we mourn and eulogize the man P.V Obeng, one thing continues to strike many intellects. Is there any special arrangement by the state to cater for the health of the public officers including P.V Obeng? How efficient is this arrangement if there's any? The passing on of P.V.Obeng quickly brings to memory circumstances around the death of uncle Atta. One can see a similar mistake been repeated. The report which announced the death of Mr. P.V Obeng said that the man collapsed while driving. Part of the report had it that his car was found in the middle of the road as uncle P.V struggled for life.

The confusion! Was information about Mr. P.V. health kept so secret that the state failed to put in place the necessary measures to support him? Why was he allowed to drive alone knowing that he had such health problem? We cannot continue to give our dedicated public officers away to death. It does suggest that we are not doing enough as a state when it comes to taking proper care of our selfless public officers

Even though death is inevitable, state institutions must rise to the occasion and ensure the safety of the self-sacrificing citizens. We may have another chance to do what is right, but there shouldn't be another chance to lose another personality to death. Uncle P.V is gone, but the agony in our hearts testifies that the man P.V. Obeng fulfilled what he was destined to do. May his soul rest in peace.
