Two Ghanaian Poets Appear In A World Poetry Anthology

Two young poets from Ghana are part of a world-wide poetry anthology. They are Gabriel Edzordzi Agbozo, whose poem “Nuclear-Shame” and Nii Ayi Solomon, whose poem “A Cry for Peace” were featured. The anthology also featured renowned poets such as Patricia Temple of Peru, Dr. Stephen Billy Olajide of Nigeria and Amarendra Khatua; the Indian Ambassador to Argentina. In all, 237 poems were featured worldwide.

Poems featured in the World Poetry Anthology were collected from all the continents of the world. The participation of our poets joins other voices from countries like Saudi Arabia. Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Liberia, Italy, India, Philippine, Nepal, Pakistan, Indonesia, Poland, Germany, Greece, England, Canada, USA, Spain, New Zealand, Brazil, Peru, Morocco, South Africa, Mauritania, Kenya and other countries.

The anthology calls for world peace and freedom. The book which has Professor Madan Ghandi from India as its Editor-in-Chief will be released on May 30, 2014 at the World Fellowship of Poets in India.

Gabriel Edzordzi Agbozo is a product of the University of Ghana and Sogakofe Senior High School. He is currently a graduate student in English Linguistics and Language Acquisition. His poems appeared in Glass Warriors, (2012), Euphemism, Department of English, Illinois State University, USA (2012), Silent Voices, a poetic lifeline from Slavery to Love (2012), The Premier Magazine, Volumes 6 (2009), 7 (2010), 8 (2011), 10 (2013); among others. He also performed poetry at the vigil night of the state funeral of the late President J. E. Atta Mills of Ghana (2012) among many other public poetry performances throughout Ghana. He also won the University of Ghana Community Excellence Awards (Creative Arts Category) in 2012 and was named in the long list of the Ghana Poetry Prize 2013.

Nii Ayi Solomon is a Travel Sales Adviser at Apstar Tours Ltd and attended Cape Coast Polytechnic, Ghana. He is a spoken word poet and performed his poetry on many platforms in Ghana including Ehalakasa, Alewa and the Ghana Poetry Festival.
