Mr Minta right presenting the items to Mr Adams Medical Assistant at the facility

Tongo (UE), April 23, GNA - A philanthropist, Osman Kofi Minta, has presented assorted medical supplies to the Tongo Health Centre in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region, to boost health care delivery in the district.

The Health Centre took delivery of the items worth GH 2,000. The items included boxes of syringes, cotton, disinfectants, and surgical supplies, amongst others, to help improve health care delivery in the district.

Mr Minta said the donation was upon a request made to him by his friend, Daniel Mahama Duun, a resident of Tongo, while he was studying in the United States, and said it formed part of support to complement governments efforts in providing quality health care to the citizenry.

He said plans were far advanced to start a non-profit organization in the country to complement governments efforts in the health delivery system and provide the health needs of deprived communities in parts of Africa.

He noted that even though the country was doing enough in maternal and child health, a lot more needed to be done to further reduce cases of maternal deaths occurring in rural communities, in order to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) Four and Five, which seek to reduce child mortality and improve maternal health by 2015.

Mr Mathew Adam, Medical Assistant at the Tongo Health Centre, received the items and expressed appreciation for the gesture.

He mentioned the lack of hospital beds, non-drug consumables, and congestion in the wards, as some of the challenges facing the clinic.

This, he noted had affected the provision of quality health care at the clinic, because it was serving the entire district which puts so much pressure on the facility.

He said plans are far advanced to move the clinic to its new site to remedy the congestion there, and appealed to the district assembly to expedite action and complete structures at the site.
