Accra, April 18, GNA - A taskforce comprising officials of Drivers Vehicle License Authority (DVLA) and Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of Ghana Police Service on Friday educated drivers on road safety.

The taskforce who were stationed at the new toll booth at Pobiman in the Greater Accra also checked whether drivers were using the right license, the state of their vehicle, as well as checking those who had taken alcohol.

Mr Noah Tetteh Matey, Accra Regional Manager of DVLA said the exercise was successful as the taskforce helped in correcting many faults, which could have resulted in road accident.

He said drivers were also educated on over-speeding as one of the major causes of road accident.

We were able to get some drivers who had taken alcohol arrested by the Police, including those who were using underweight license to drive, he said.

He said the exercise was to ensure that no individual loses his or her life through road accident during the Easter festivity.

Mr Matey gave the assurance that, the taskforce would continue to undertake such exercises during festive seasons.

Inspector Isaac Oduro of the MTTD said, the taskforce also discovered during the exercise that some drivers were not having reflection signs embossed on their cars, while others were using a photocopy license to drive.

He said it is illegal to drive with a photocopy driving license and asked drivers to desist from doing that.
