Kombian Trial Adjourned
17.04.2014 LISTEN

Johnson Kombian
The trial of Johnson Kombian – the notorious suspected armed robber serving prison term for breaking jail – was yesterday adjourned by an Accra Fast Track High Court.

This was after Marina Appiah, the state attorney prosecuting the case, had told the court, presided over by Justice Mustpaha Habib Logoh, that the witness expected to testify yesterday could not make it to court.

She consequently prayed the court to adjourn the hearing for them to get in touch with the witness and present him at the next adjourned date.

The trial judge consequently had the case adjourned to April 30, 2014.

ASP Mumuni Abdulai, former District Police Commander for Bunkprugu Yunyoo and second witness in the trial, who concluded his evidence two weeks ago, testified that it was Johnson Kombian who killed Constables Prince Agyare and Owusu Frimpong and wounded Osei Bonsu.

The ASP  said he knew it was Kombian because after his colleagues were shot, Kombian thought they had died so after the exchange of fire, he went looking around the Nakpanduri scarp for their guns but his colleagues saw him.

Led in evidence by the prosecuting state attorney, the ASP told the court that on October 17, 2010, he had just closed from work when he was informed that three of his colleagues – Constables Prince Agyare, Owusu Frimpong and Osei Bonsu had been shot.

He said he called one of his colleagues in the office to ascertain the veracity of the news and he confirmed that their colleagues had indeed been shot so he returned to the office and mobilized a team of five officers and a vehicle to search for them.

Furthermore, he said while on the way to Nakpanduri, they received calls from some persons that Kombian had gone around the town informing people to run away from the area because the police were coming to get them.

ASP Mumuni Abdulai said when they got to the scarp they heard Osei Bonsu calling for help about seven meters deep down the scarp and saw  the body of Agyare lying lifeless with Frimpong terribly wounded when they got to the scene of the shooting.

In addition, he said the three were conveyed to the Baptist Medical Centre at Nalerigu where Agyare was pronounced dead on arrival while Osei Bonsu received treatment and is yet to recover.
