The fourth annual African Achievers Awards, to honour Africans who have excelled in their respective fields of endeavour, has been launched in Accra.

Dubbed the “African Achievers Awards 2014”, the awards scheme seeks to recognise individuals and organisations that have distinguished themselves in contributing towards the growth and development of the continent.

The theme for the awards, to be held on February, 28, is “Entrepreneurship and technology as catalyst for the development of the African economy”.

Speaking at the launch, the Business Development Manager of the African Achievers Awards, Mr Bryt Nzenwa, said the nominees and recipients of the awards would all be Africans.

He said at the awards ceremony, to be held at the State Banquet Hall in Accra, a number of Africans selected from about 25 countries would be honoured. Award categories

Some of the award categories are the African Achievers Lifetime Award, Peacekeeping Award, African woman of the year and the Award for creativity and excellence. Ghana as the host

According to Mr Nzenwa, the awards would be the fourth edition, adding that “we held the first two in London and we held it last year in Kenya”.

Mr Nzenwa said Ghana was chosen to host the awards ceremony this year because the country had proven to be a peaceful and democratic state.

“The awards ceremony would be attended by celebrities in Africa, entrepreneurs, politicians and diplomats, while members of the public who wish to attend it can purchase tickets and be there,” he said
