Abuja (AFP) - Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure was on Thursday in line for another accolade, as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced its shortlist for African Footballer of the Year.
The Manchester City star on Monday was named BBC African Footballer of the Year at the fifth time of asking.
Toure won the CAF version last year and could retain the honour at a ceremony in Nigeria's commercial capital, Lagos, on January 9.
Toure's compatriot Didier Drogba, currently playing at Turkish giants Galatasaray, also made the shortlist, which was whittled down to 10 players from 25.
In a reflection of the team's African Cup of Nations triumph, four Nigerians made the cut: John Mikel Obi (Chelsea/ENG); Emmanuel Emenike (Fenerbahce/TUR); Vincent Enyeama (Lille/FRA); and Ahmed Musa (CSKA Moscow/RUS).
Ghana's Asamoah Gyan (Al Ain/UAE), Gabon's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Borussia Dortmund/GER), Egypt's Mohamed Aboutrika (Al Ahly), and Jonathan Pitroipa (Rennes/FRA) of Burkina Faso also make the list.
The nominees for the best African Player based in Africa was cut to five.
They are Sunday Mba (Nigeria), last year's winner Mohamed Aboutrika and Ahmed Fathy, both of Egypt, Rainford Kalaba (Zambia), and Tresor Mputu Mabi (DR Congo).
