Accra, Sept 30, GNA - Dr Omane Boamah, Minister of Communications, on Monday held a closed-door meeting with Mr Braimah Sanou, Director, Telecommunications Development Bureau, International Telecommunications Union (ITU) ahead of the October 1 to 4 conference.
Dr Boamah told journalists the meeting focused on the twin-event, Regional Development Forum for Africa 2013 and the Regional Preparatory Meeting for the World Telecommunication Development Conference.
He said issues discussed were development oriented including how to ensure Africa reached consensus on developing first class telecommunications infrastructure to drive its economies.
This was to ensure a common platform to discuss matters concerning cyber security and broadband for the benefit of the continent.
Mr Sanou said the conference provides a unique forum to discuss telecommunication as a priority area every four years.
He said it was time Africa moved from the demand side and to position itself on the supply side.
The conferences would create a platform for stakeholders to have open interactions and aimed at finding out ways to improve the Telecommunication and Information and Communication Telecommunication in all African countries.
The ITU has 191 member states and more than 700 Sector Members and Associates.
The union acts as a forum for governments and the private sector to coordinate technical and policy matters related to global telecommunications networks and services.
