The terrorist attack by the al-Shabab militias in a Kenyan Westgate Shopping Mall that led to the death over 60 people including Prof Kofi Awoornor of Ghana has led to panic and apprehension the world over. In some African countries including Ghana the British authorities and United States of America have warned their citizens who reside in that country to be cautious by not going to crowded environments such as shopping centers, restaurants and hotels. The reason is simple. The Alshabab from Somalia attacked the shopping mall in Kenya in retaliation over the involvement of the Kenyan army sent as part of peace keeping forces to ward off activities of al-Shabab forces that intended to expand their bases in Somalia.

The fear by the British government is based on the fact that the Ghanaian army has been sent to Mali to as peace keeping forces also to fight some terrorists in that country. The British government is therefore apprehensive. No one can begrudge them.

The UK government has warned all British citizens in Ghana to be wary of a likely terrorist attack as happened in Kenya recently.

The British Government says it fears Ghana's contribution of about 120 troops for military intervention in West African neighbor Mali, could spark retaliatory terror attacks from fundamentalist Islamist groups.

The engineering regiments of the Ghana Armed Forces have been in Mali this year to offer support in dealing with the crises.

Ghana has also made a $3 million financial support to the African-led force for Mali (AFISMA).

The warning was sounded via travel information offered to UK citizens on the British Government's website.

It noted that: 'There is an underlying threat from terrorism. Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by expatriates and foreign travelers'.

'There is a possibility of retaliatory attacks in Ghana due to its participation in the intervention in Mali', it noted.

The warning follows a recent attack on Kenya at a mall where at least 67 non-Muslims were killed by Islamist group al-Shabab.

However the Ghanaian government says the nation is prepared for any attacks by foreign forces

The Government of Ghana on its part says its decision to maintain or withdraw Ghanaian troops from Mali will not be hinged on any possible consequential terrorist attack on the nation.

Deputy Minister of Information and Media Relations, Felix Kwakye Ofosu says Ghana is constantly on the alert to thwart any security threat from terrorist groups.

This comes in the wake of the Westgate Attack in Kenya where over 60 people died, leaving several others injured.

Fortunately for most of us Muslim, Ghana is a safe haven as far as terrorism is concerned. Ghana is a home to citizens and foreigners who consider Ghana their home. The Muslims in Ghana are true believers who do not believe in taking actions irrationally. There are no groups of fundamentalists who can attack non Muslims. All Muslims in Ghana have learnt to live with non Muslims in the same communities', schools , markets and work places . We exchange gifts and visits neighbor non Muslims during Christmas and Islamic festivals. Indeed we are so close in Ghana that we Muslims and Christians belong to the same coalitions for peace movements and election observer groups. We do have foreign delegates principally from Europe and America during workshops attended by Muslims and Christians. We love Europeans Americans and non Ghanaians to a fault. Because Muslims are loyal to their leaders who abhor terrorism it would therefore not be possible for foreign elements to infiltrate our ranks to get Muslim youth to embark on terrorist attacks.

Currently almost all Muslim leaders including the National Chief Imam, Imam of Ahlul Sunna Wal Jamma and the Federation of Muslim Councils of Ghana have kicked against the attacks launched by Alshabab on the Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi Kenya that led to the death and injury of many innocent shoppers. They all consider Islam as a religion of peace whose followers have no business attacking and killing innocent as happened in Kenya. They have taken it upon themselves to embark on educational campaigns in mosques and Islamic schools to concretize Muslims on what Islam says about terrorism.
