Celebrity Love (or Marriages): Does it work?

Celebrity Love or Marriages: Does it work?
12.09.2013 LISTEN

Hollywood and the rest of the entertainment world is rife with failed marriages and love affairs that were wondered at and enthused by fans, hyped by the media and glamorized endlessly, only for them to flicker out within a year or two or less.

Considering the many examples of such failed marriages and love affairs, one is tempted to wonder why celebrities still find it convenient to fall in love with each other and end up complaining when it doesn't work.

Take our very own Yvonne Nelson and Nigerian singer Iyanya for instance. Was their so called love affair really kindled by Iyanya's song in which he declared a sort of public proposal to Yvonne Nelson--singing thus:'All I want is your waist?'

Whatever the case, he really was looking for her waist and after he got it, why hang around her anymore? Why not sing another song and lay some other girl?

It was a love affair that was never going to work, and it didn't. The entertainment world woke up one day to the news that the two lovebirds were no longer together (with the lady alleging that Iyanya was seeing other girls). In her own words, 'Iyanya used and dumped me.'

Seriously? She didn't know that such a thing was in the offing, and that it was the guy's intention from day one? Well...

Kudos to the former lovebirds, anyway. Theirs lasted longer than Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries's; they stayed 'in love and remained married' for exactly 72 days, after which the former sex-tape actress filed for divorce.

Such scenarios make you wonder whether celebrity affairs are prompted by love. Are they? I doubt it, and I'm tempted to think that most of these affairs are lust-inspired or mere marketing stunts that are staged and supposed to increase the public visibility of the so called lovers. It could be either reason.

Yet still, there's no denying the fact that some celebrity affairs do work. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have been together for a long while, and maybe our own Elikem and Pokello (former Big Brother housemates) will find long lasting love?

The two have been together for sometime and don't seem to be trekking the path that's usually taken by others who will see each other once or twice and jump into bed--thinking themselves into a clueless and perverted perception of love. Whatever.

In the world of celebrity love affairs, the failure's far, far outweigh the successes, but that shouldn't be a reason why celebrities shouldn't be with whomever they want to be with?

It's their heart and they can steer it as they wish? Yes, yes, but let them spare us the complaints.
