'It will be history spiced with humour, music and dance,' is how playwright and theatre producer Latif Abubakar describes The Second Coming of Nkrumah, his new work which will open at the National Theatre next month.

The Second Coming of Nkrumah is being staged by Abubakar's Globe Productions in partnership with Live FM, National Theatre and the Nkrumah Centenary Committee.

'The play is the story of the foundation of freedom in Africa and the legendary character that spurred the struggle on,' Abubakar adds.

A notable aspect of the play is that it involves characters who look and speak like former Ghanaian Presidents: Kwame Nkrumah, Hilla Liman, Jerry John Rawlings, John Kuffour and Evans Atta Mills. There is also a character that plays the current President.

Former British Governor, Arden Clark and Queen Elizabeth will also be depicted by two British actors who have already arrived for rehearsals.

'The main objective of The Second Coming of Nkrumah is to provide a delightful platform for Ghanaians and non-Ghanaians in this country to be entertained and educated about the political history and culture of this country,' says the play's writer and producer.

'The play also seeks to emphasise the importance of unity for national development and contribute to the resurgence of theatre as one of the best sources of entertainment in this country.'

Previous theatrical offerings from Globe Productions include Romantic Nonsense; You May Kiss the Corpse; The Gallery of Comedies and Thank God for Idiots.
