OBUASI SITS ON TIME BOMB

Obuasi, we all know is one of the largest Gold Producing towns in the world and have so many residents coming from different parts of the country,due to the hub in small scale mining or Galamsey.

Just recently the government of Ghana brought about a joint security task force to flush out 'galamsey' or illegal mining nation wide,and Obuasi was not left out of this flush out exercise

Most of the young boys in Obuasi were fully into illegal mining and after its collapse by the security forces just about two months ago.

Back to my topic, after the closure of all sites ,these who were fully into illegal mining are now in real economic hardships, some selling their uncompleted buildings, trucks, cars and other properties.

The Obuasi municipality is now experiencing armed robbery, car snatching and minor theft which was a thing in the past.

A gold dealer was shot in the knee and his security man shot dead after he refused to give them money!This incident happened in broad day light.

Kudos to the Ghana Police Service in Obuasi,the security in the municipality have been beefed up to meet the safety needs of residents.Police check points have now been increased during the day and night.

There is no alternative job to occupy these unemployed youths, which is know leading some of them to burglary and selling of properties.

I humbly call on the Obuasi municipal Chief Executive Officer, Anglo Gold Ashanti, Obuasi Mine Traditional leaders and other stake holders to take this security menace up and do something to occupy the unemployed youth.
