Pope Francis, on Saturday during a lecture to seminarians and novices and people training to become priests and nuns, advised them to try and live modestly and the Catholic Church should not be afraid of 'renewing' itself.

This comment came after the arrest of Monsignor Nunzio Scarano, who was accused of trying to smuggle millions of Euros into Italy.

"It hurts my heart when I see a priest or a nun with the latest model of car," the pope said, he also condemned the "search for the latest model of smart phones, the fastest scooter, and the car that gets noticed”.

He preached that joy does not come from possessing material things but one should think about the children dying of hunger before buying a nice car.

The pope, after being elected in March has shown modesty by choosing to live in the Vatican guesthouse than the grand apartments for popes. He is expected to change certain ideas of the Vatican institution in the coming months.
