The star witness for the petitioners in the presidential election hearing at the Supreme Court, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, could mount the witness box once again for cross-examination if reports of missing and found pink sheets belonging to the President of the Court, Justice William Atuguba, are true.

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) legal team, Mr. Abraham Amaliba, has hinted that the respondents are likely to request the court to grant them the opportunity to interrogate Dr. Bawumia on the extra pink sheets, said to have been discovered.

Media reports suggest that an additional box of pink sheets, which was said to have been in the custody of the President of the court, but could not be found by personnel of KPMG during their initial auditing, had been found.

The box, which was reported to have eluded the auditing firm during the counting, was discovered after Justice Atuguba called personnel of the firm and alerted them that a box of pink sheets belonging to him was still in the custody of the Court Registrar.

According to speculations, the discovery of the additional box is most likely to bring controversy over whether the number of pink sheets submitted to the court by the petitioners actually amounted to 11,842, as initially stated, but may not be enough guarantee that the battle of cross-examination of the star witness for the petitioners had ended.

Lawyer Amaliba told a local radio station, Hello 101.5FM, during its breakfast show hosted by King Edward, that counsel for the respondents would subject Dr. Bawumia to further interrogation on the missing and found pinks sheets.

He noted that in fairness and justice, he expected the judges to grant that opportunity to the respondents to do further cross-examination on the fresh pink sheets.

'I believe that the court, in its own wisdom, will grant such an opportunity for us to interrogate the petitioners on those documents,' he noted.

Maintaining the position of the respondent that it received only 8,500 pink sheets from the petitioners, Lawyer Amaliba stated that any further figure would be additional documents which were not in possession of the respondents.

The court is expected to resume sitting after a week-long break to afford KPMG enough time to count the pink sheets in possession of the President of the court, as a control mechanism in establishing the true amount of the pink sheets submitted to the parties involved in the case.
