Ridge International School to start SHS

A sod-cutting ceremony has been performed for the extension of facilities at the Ridge International School in Kumasi to have a senior high school.

The $2.8million four-storey building project  comprises 14 classrooms, four laboratories, a staff common room, a 600-seating capacity auditorium, a sick bay, sports changing rooms for boys and girls and a kitchen among other facilities.

The project, to be completed in four years, is being funded through fund raising, special levies, contributions from parents and friends of educational development.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof Owusu Addo, the board chairman of the school, said the construction of the project to expand the school's facilities from the present junior high to a senior high school had become necessary due to increase in student population.

He said the board expected that the completion of the project would ease the pressure  on parents seeking admission for their children in other senior high schools in the country.

He stressed the commitment of the board to improve and promote quality education in the school and urged stakeholders and other development partners to support infrastructure development of the school.

Akyempemhene Oheneba Adusei Poku, who deputised for the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, commended the school for promoting high standards leading to academic successes and enhanced performance in sporting activities.

He said Otumfuo was very interested in the promotion of education in the country and therefore stressed his support for the development of infrastructure in the school.

It is a shame for us to be treated in this way by the Chinese. However, we have ourselves to blame. By February 1996 when Nkrumah was overthrown by the traitors, Ghana was at par, economy-wise, with the so-called Asian Tigers. Mind you, China was not even one of the Asian Tigers. Assuming that Nkrumah was the devil incarnate, did we have to throw away the baby with the bathwater by dismantling everything he did for the country? Who the cap fits let them wear it.
