Melcom To Fund Three Classroom For St. Peter And Paul School

The Joint Managing Director of Melcom, Ramesh Sadhwan, has cut the sod for the construction of a three-unit classroom block at the St. Peter and Paul Primary School in the Bolgatanga Municipality.

The project would be funded by Melcom under the Melcom Care Foundation.

Ramesh Sadhwan, prior to the sod cutting ceremony, said his outfit, over the years, had  prioritized education in the country, stressing that it had developed an action plan and set up a fund to support less-endowed schools across the country to address their infrastructural needs.

Under the action plan, the company intends to facilitate the construction of classrooms for schools in remote and peripheral areas of the country under the Melcom Care Foundation.

According to Mr. Sadhwani, the sod cutting ceremony in Bolgatanga symbolizes the beginning of activities under the Melcom Care Foundation, which would be replicated in other areas of the country, particularly in remote communities of the Northern Ghana.

The Headmistress of the St. Peter and Paul Primary school, Margaret Ayarik bemoaned the deplorable nature of structures in the school, describing most of them as death traps.

He noted that the successful construction and completion of the classroom block would go a long way to increase enrolment and also ease congestion at the school.

She commended Melcom for the gesture and called on other organizations to assist other less endowed schools to help reduce the number of dilapidated buildings.

'Apart from using dilapidated structures, we do not have learning and teaching materials and that affects the quality of teaching and learning. We are calling on other business giants in the Upper East region and the country to support our school with these materials to improve the performance of pupils.'

Prior to the sod cutting, Mr. Ramesh Sadhwani, together with the Bolga-Naba, Martin Abilba III and other dignitaries, officially opened the Bolgatanga branch of Melcom Shopping Center.

Members of the public attended the official opening of the new edifice.

Addressing the gathering, the Director of Communications Melcom Group of Companies, Godwin Avernogbo said Melcom has introduced a whole new shopping experience in Ghana by offering low prices.

This, he noted, has undoubtedly contributed to reducing the cost of living.

Mr. Avernogbo charged staff of the branch, especially those who directly interact with clients to be respectful and supportive.
