Kaizer Chiefs complete South African double

DURBAN, South Africa (AFP) - Champions Kaizer Chiefs completed a South African double Saturday by defeating SuperSport United 1-0 in the FA Cup final.

National team midfielder Bernard Parker scored the only goal at Moses Mabhida Stadium four minutes into extra time.

A capacity 55,000 crowd in the Indian Ocean city of Durban saw the diminutive star fire the ball past Ronwen Williams from just outside the box.

Holders SuperSport came close to levelling on 115 minutes through veteran Botswana midfielder Mogogi Gabonamong.

His downward header was flying toward the net until Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune punched the ball away.

The save crowned a superb season for South Africa skipper Khune, who is favoured to be named Footballer of the Year on Sunday.

Chiefs, who sealed the league title 10 days ago by drawing with SuperSport, were worthy winners of a final that produced few chances.

Williams was the busier goalkeeper with half of Chiefs' 14 shots on target while SuperSport troubled Khune just three times in 15 attempts.

SuperSport played nearly half of extra time a man short as striker Sibusiso Zuma retired injured after the three substitutions were made.

Victory extended to six matches Chiefs' unbeaten run against SuperSport in the three annual South African cup competitions.

Chiefs will compete in the 2014 CAF Champions League while SuperSport make a second consecutive CAF Confederation Cup appearance.
