UK Chamber of Commerce trade delegation in Ghana to explore opportunities

Accra, May 17, GNA - A trade delegation, from the London Chamber of Commerce and the United Kingdom (UK) Trade and Investment North West, has met with representatives of Ghanaian companies at a reception in Accra.

The delegation is on a three-day trade mission to Ghana and Nigeria to explore business opportunities.

Mr Chuka Umunna, UK Labour Member of Parliament for Streatham and Leader of the delegation, said Ghana was fast developing as a leading gateway to Africa.

He said Ghana's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by approximately nine per cent in 2012, placing it among the top ten global economies.

Mr Umunna, who is also the Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Innovations and Skills, said he would support and encourage business in all aspects of international trade.

He said British companies were very keen to engage Ghanaian companies and that UK was united to promote businesses in Ghana and in the other countries in West Africa.

Ms Caron Rohsler, Deputy British High Commissioner to Ghana, said Ghana's economy was fast developing and that companies in Britain were ready to do business with their Ghanaian counterparts.

She was grateful representatives of Ghanaian companies accepted the invitation to participate, interact and share ideas with the trade mission and expressed the hope that the meeting would be beneficial to both countries.
