A leading member of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and a Public Interest Lawyer has questioned the rationale behind why the New Patriotic Party (NPP) opted to have Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, the Second petitioner in the election suit filed at the Supreme Court challenging the legitimacy of President John Dramani Mahama, as their principal witness.

Mr Sam Pee Yalley considers the NPP's 2012 Presidential Candidate and the First Petitioner, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, as a better star witness.

“Why is Bawumia in the dock, not Akufo Addo? I'm beginning to smell problems for these elephants,” he said.

The Public Interest Lawyer, who is projecting a win for the NDC in this legal battle, believes the ruling party has such a solid case that the Supreme Court will pronounce verdict in their favour.

“…there could be no change…When I am projecting that the NDC will win, I have a conviction…I agree that as an NDC man, I should be cautious about predictions but I am not afraid of the prediction that we have solid evidence on which we are litigating this matter,” he boldly predicted.

Sam Pee Yalley, who was commenting on the court proceedings, told Radio Gold on Saturday that irrespective of the sensitive nature of the case, he was of the firm conviction that when the court gives its verdict, it will favour the NDC.

According to him, should the court rule for a run-off, it may have some budgetary constraints on the economy and thus, affect the administration of the country.

“This is a very sensitive case. The results have devastating effect on the administration of this country. It is for that reason that we have to be very careful of whatever we say in respect of these proceedings,” he cautioned.
