Two Men From Peru Sentenced For Stealing Otumfuor's Crown Jewels

Two notorious men from Peru have been sentenced to prison terms by Norwegian Court, after being convicted of stealing the crown jewels from the king of Ashanti, Nana Otumfuor Osei Tutu II. when he was in Oslo in October 2012.

However some of the crown jewels have still not been recovered.

The City Court of Oslo sentenced one of the men, aged 44, to prison for 18 months on Wednesday while his accomplice, aged 41, was sentenced to 44 months in prison.

A third suspect in the case, a woman aged 57 is also being held in remand custody in Peru but the Norwegian police department is waiting for her extradition from Peru to stand trial in Norway.

The big time theft was carried out in the lobby of the Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel in downtown Oslo, while King Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was checking to the Hotel in October last year.

Otumfuor was in Oslo to appear at a conference to promote business between Norway and African countries, and had his stolen inherited jewels with him.

Recorded video from the hotel's surveillance cameras assisted the police to track down the thieves, one of the men was arrested at the airport in Stockholm a week after their attempt to steal and stealing Otumfuor's crown jewels.

Even though some of the golden jewels have been recovered, it still remains some of Otumfuor's golden crown jewels not recovered.
