Awutu Bereku (C/R), April 4, GNA - Mr Andrews Ofori Larbi, Awutu-Senya District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has expressed concern about  the lack of patriotism among the citizenry which is gradually affecting the development agenda of the country.

In an interaction with the media at Awutu Bereku, Mr Larbi said the lack of patriotism was gradually eating into the fabric of society and the earlier an antidote was found to the canker the better it would be for the nation.

Mr Larbi said communal labour had gone down considerably because of the unpatriotic attitude of some people who were expecting everything to be done for them by the government.

He said the unpatriotic attitude of some Ghanaians had also affected the environment.

'People throw refuse anywhere, especially into gutters thus making the drainage system choked causing flooding when it rains,' he said.

Mr Larbi said: 'The get rich quick attitude have taken precedence over patriotism," and that galamsey operators were are destroying water bodies and did not care whether people got water to drink or not.

'Let us show love for our country and our people,' the NCCE District Director said.

On the political land scape, Mr Larbi expressed concern about polarization of the country which meant that people who belonged to a political divide that was not in power felt reluctant to cooperate with the government.

This, he said, was the root of the problems confronting the nation.

He urged politicians to be mindful of their deeds and utterances to ensure that they promoted unity which was a pre-requisite for national development.

'The 2012 general election is over, what is needed now is to unite and plan about how we can move the nation forward,' he said.

Mr Larbi urged workers to desist from activities such as lateness, absenteeism, corruption, and misappropriation of state funds which retarded development of the nation.
