Ghana@56, Are You Proud?

Ghana56, Are You Proud?
05.03.2013 LISTEN

56 years, well for many they say life beings at 40, therefore it makes sense to say, Ghana should be well, well ahead in terms of living, but you be the judge, is Ghana anything, or anywhere near we should be proud of?

These simple everyday questions will make you answer the above question, is there anything to be proud of as Ghanaians?

Our energy crisis started decades ago, so should you be proud governments after government have not solved this problem once and for all?

Water and sanitation has being our bane and curse, has any government tackled these also, in this age we see children, mothers and fathers carrying yellow gallons looking for water, sharing drinking water with animals, we see farmers using sewage water to grow their vegetables, are your proud of that?

Every day you see people, men, women and children toileting in the open, our nasty, smelly unhygienic public toilets are still in existence, are you proud of this, our beaches have become the new toilet facility for many, I guess that should make your proud.

We live in a country where people believe as soon as they drive big cars, it means they must not be in traffic, they turn on their hazards lights, and honk to be given way, I guess this is what our leader have impacted on them and we should be proud of it, we funny enough we cannot even afford good genuine parts because if we could most of the accidents on our streets would have being a thing of the past.

Are you not scared to go to Korle-Bu, I am because I have heard terrible stories. Water shortage causing death, energy and lack of basic equipment causing death, I am definitely not proud of Ghana.

The Accra-Tema mottoway which was build decades ago, has not seen any major face lift since its construction, should I be proud?

Should we be proud that, you only have street lights and tarred roads in your community only when you have politicians in government living around?

Why not take a moment out and let us try to think about something to be proud of, well as much as I try I cannot make out anything special, I love my football, but even that I am not proud of our national team because they have achieved nothing to be proud of, should I be proud of a peaceful election, well not me, that is a normal thing.

Should I be proud that the average lending rates in the country is 25-40 percent? Should I be proud that I cannot afford to buy brand new tires for my car, that I cannot buy a house, well I am not proud, I don't know about you either. The depreciation of the local currency is another debate altogether.

Let's go back to Electricity Company of Ghana, I find it hard to believe that the meters for households are being put outside people homes and they accept it, is this the most innovative way to solve a problem, well, this says a lot about the intellectual deficiency at the Electricity Company of Ghana.

Fires here, fires there, fires everywhere. Deforestation, illegal mining and pollution, I am definitely not proud of Ghana. Pot-holes everywhere, broken street lights, chocked gutters, beggars on our streets, hawkers taking over, dust, cholera, and corruption just mention a few more. The squatters and the zongos of our cities, who has the 'balls' to tackle these problems once and for all, who can make us proud, by taking the hard decisions.

In 56 years it is sad that we cannot I identify a true leader, a true visionary, a true son/daughter of Ghana who can make us proud. A leader who does not care about his political career but about the state of the Ghanaian on the street a leader who wants to leave an indelible mark on posterity.

I am definitely not proud of Ghana, because the people we elect to make us proud only end up scavenging, stealing, and taking Ghana backward into the darkness, and we are going backward, we should not kid ourselves. We should have being a developed country by now, and probably instead of BRICS we should have BRIGCS, with the G- standing for Ghana.

Well, God Bless Ghana, because we are bleeding a beautiful country and there is nothing to be proud of, we are so not proud of anything Ghanaian that, we now call our football clubs Chelsea and Arsenal, we have Oxford St and Mayfair Estate, you may not want to admit it but no one seems to be proud of Ghana, and I blame no one but the scavengers in power, who have misplaces priorities such a building statutes and burdening us with debt.

Leaders who cannot envision the gold mine Ghana Rail Ways Company is, scavengers who cannot tackle the illegal mining cancer wrecking disaster across the country. It is truly sad, but there is nothing to be proud of for Ghana, its being 56 years of going backward into the darkness with all the wealth available to us.
