Hundreds of residents in Gushiegu, Northern region, have been rendered homeless as strong winds ripped off roofs of their homes last night.

The strong winds that started around 2030hrs wrecked havoc on several structures including the Electoral Commission's local office, two Junior High Schools, a Senior High School and hundreds of houses.

According to the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Gushiegu, Alhaji Alhassan Fuseini, Tuesday's havoc was compounded by the on-going load shedding as the area was already in darkness.

The DCE told Joy News' Northern region correspondent, Mohammed Hasmid, scores of people got injured in the pandemonium that broke out during the incident.

He stated that District Assembly is liaising with the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to provide relief items to the affected items as they work at restoring the situation to normalcy.
