Cafac Announces Intention To Host The 1st Annual Fraud And Corruption Summit In Ghana
22.02.2013 LISTEN

Early this year, specifically on January 19, 20013 the Corruption and Fraud Audit Consortium (CAFAC) was inaugurated at the University of Ghana Business School with the Dean of the business school delivering a key-note address on professional training and education as a new tool in the anti-corruption arsenal.

In his complementary speech, the CEO and co-founder of CAFAC Hector Boham laid out a five point plan as the underpinnings of a major anti-corruption assault in Ghana. These 5 points were as follows:

CAFAC'S 5 POINT PLAN
1) Active involvement of academia/intelligentsia/tertiary institutions in the fight against fraud and corruption – BSC AND MSC Fraud Examination, Forensics Accounting. – (CAFAC's founder will teach the course for an annual salary of 1 GHC which literally means for no salary.

2) The use of research to study the nature of the enemy we are fighting against. The research will enable us to know things such as the a) the nature b) the methods c) the extent of damage d) the types of people likely to engage in fraud and corruption and e) solutions. It will ultimately lead to the production of the annual report to the nation Ghana on fraud and corruption. Another highlight of the research collaboration will be the annual summit on fraud and corruption in Ghana which will be a hallmark media event that will showcase all the major anti-corruption agencies in Ghana and their various agenda

3) The use of professional training and education to produce a critical mass of certified professionals who will be sensitized about fraud and corruption – Refer to CAFAC'S courses at a glance

4) The use of fraud and corruption auditing – fraud auditing already exists but corruption auditing is a new phenomenon. We intend to intensify what already exists and introduce this new phenomenon of corruption auditing

5) The involvement of the media in the fight against fraud and corruption. We are asking for a) a column in a newspaper, b) a weekly radio program and c) a weekly TV show devoted entirely to discussions on fraud and corruption.

Expanding on the unprecedented success of CAFAC's inauguration conference, the CEO and Co-Founder Hector Boham is delighted to announce the intention to host Ghana's 1st annual fraud and corruption summit. This summit is an integral part of the 2nd point in CAFAC'S 5 point plan (refer to insert above.)

This event is expected to bring together more than 500 anti-fraud professionals, top experts and industry leaders to discuss relevant timely topics related to fraud-fighting challenges. Experts selected from some of the world's and Ghana's leading companies, organizations and institutions will come together to share successes, challenges and lessons from managing projects and cases involving fraud and corruption with a focus on achievements and approaches. With dynamic educational sessions, invaluable networking/career advancing opportunities and cutting edge resources, this event, the 1st of its kind in Ghana will offer the most comprehensive learning experience in the anti-corruption regime.

It will drill down into the detection, prevention and investigation of fraud, corruption and related financial crime. The objective is to share proven strategies on stamping out corruption and fraudulent threats to business, government and society through implementing strong ethics and top-end governance, streamlining fraud risk management strategies and protecting social, political and economic assets for the present and future generations of our beloved country - Ghana.

The summit is expected to enjoy the support and participation of the Ghanaian business and media community, prominent government departments, anti-corruption commissions and the international community working in the fraud risk and anti-corruption landscape.

Format
A unique learning format will be utilized. Some of the methodologies under consideration are case studies, panel discussions, thought leadership exercises, workshops, special interest think tanks and fraud and corruption roundtables. Then there will be the usual key speeches by keynote speakers.

The fraud and corruption roundtable is a thought leadership discussion for thought leaders and practitioners who are directly involved in the day to day fight against fraud and corruption. The format is open group discussion facilitated by established practitioners. The Chatham House rule will be used for the roundtable which means that no press will be permitted. The entire session will be conducted as a close door session, which will allow participants to discuss real life incidents without fear of reprisals and also be able to benchmark proven and possible solutions. There will be an interactive layout and the seating will be truly roundtable. No power point slides will be used, only flip charts to allow for more intimate and professional open exchanges.

Venue and Date
The venue shall be the University of Ghana Business School. The date is yet to be determined but it will certainly be in the fall of 2013 and on a day when students at the University of Ghana are in full session – because if indeed we want academia to be involved front and center in the fight against fraud and corruption, then the students should be given the opportunity to attend without any inconvenience.

The speakers will be carefully selected from business, government, academia and civil society. They will run the gamut from the smallest to the biggest stakeholders in the fight against fraud and corruption. The following is a non-exhaustive list of possible speakers;
