Kumasi, Feb. 07, GNA - The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) would soon commence work on the construction of an ultra-modern office and laboratory at Danyame in Kumasi to enhance its operations in the Ashanti Region.

Mr Akwasi Owusu Boadu, the Regional Director, said the project would be financed through internally-generated fund adding that its successful completion would ensure that local products are up to internationally accepted standards.

Speaking at a day's workshop organized for manufacturers, quality control and laboratory managers in Kumasi, he underlined their resolve insist on quality and value for money.

Mr Boadu complained of the lack of resources, something he said, was affecting performance.

He said currently all activities by the Regional Office in respect to the calibration, verification of weights, weighing and measuring devices, are done in Accra.

This, he said, was unhelpful to the facilitation of trade and commerce saying it was impeding industrial and economic growth.

He denounced the cheating that had become associated with most trading activities because of incorrect measurement and said the completion of the laboratory project would address such concerns.
