Ghana will miss Mubarak Wakaso for the final group game at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations but are delighted with the opportunity to throw in other options.
The midfielder is suspended for the last Group B match against Niger on Monday after picking up two bookings from the previous games.
For the Black Stars technical team, the philosophy of operating with versatile players makes it much easier replacing the suspended Wakaso.
“Plans have been in advanced stage to replace him. We have too many good players who can play in more than one position,” assistant Black Stars coach Maxwell Konadu said.
“We will miss him but I think the other guys are also there to prove a point if given a chance.
“This may be a chance for another player but we just wish Wakaso returns as soon as possible for us.”
Ghana's ability to deploy Kwadwo Asamoah in different roles on the pitch should give an insight into that philosophy, according to Konadu.
“Kwadwo Asamoah has been playing a left-back position for some time now. He did it for us in the preparation period in Abu Dhabi and also here.
“He created another goal for us and scored. But it all depends on the coach whether he wants to continue him in midfield or bring him back to the left-back. Harrison [Afful] also did well and we are happy with the performance of our players.
“It means we now have more options and do whatever we want with our players once they can play multiple positions and that's good for the team,” he said.
