Hosts South Africa hosts and debutants Cape Verde Islands settled for a 0-0 result in the opener at Soccer City and was followed by the same result when Morocco and Angola also finished goalless.
All four Group A teams have one point with two mini-league rounds to go and two places in the quarter-finals up for grabs.
