Ecobank Gets Superbrands Awards
13.12.2012 LISTEN

Ecobank Ghana has been named one of Ghana's top-most 16 corporate brands at a ceremony organised in Accra recently. Twenty-four (24) product brands were also named on the night, bringing the total awards to 40 superbrands.

The awards were conferred on these 40 brands by the globally known Superbrands, the world's largest independent arbiter of branding, which identifies and pays tribute to exceptional brands by recognising, rewarding and reinforcing leading brands from all over the world.

The organisation runs the Superbrands Awards Schemes and Promotional Programmes in various countries, each with a brand focused publication at its core.

The Superbrands Council, which consists of eminent personalities in the world of branding, settled on these top brands based on five criteria: customer loyalty, goodwill, market dominance, and longevity and market acceptance.

Apart from excelling in each of the above criteria, the selection of Ecobank Ghana, as a superbrand, was also based on the fact that Ecobank has grown to command very high financial-based and customer-based brand equity in the Ghanaian market and also stands very tall among its peers.

Ecobank Ghana presently occupies the enviable position of being the number one bank in Ghana in terms of size and by every other acceptable measure.

This achievement is unparalleled in the banking history of Ghana as Ecobank has been operating for just about 22 years in the country, compared with its multinational peers in the top-tier segment of Ghanaian banks, the first of which was established as far back as 1896 and the second 1917.

Considering its Pan-African nature, its favourable brand alignment among stakeholders, its vision, values and culture, its sterling financial performance and its dominant posture in the Ghanaian market, Ecobank Ghana has become the employer of choice, a corporate entity which consistently gives back to society by way of discharging its CSR and its shares (stocks) are vigorously sought after within the investor community.

With all these, Ecobank Ghana is definitely a superbrand and deserves to be counted among the very top brands in Ghana and beyond.

Mr. Eric Affaidu, Chief Executive Officer of Super Brands Ghana said: 'There are many companies that have still not recognized the importance of branding in the country. Of those who have, many are yet to apply the discipline. And of those who have attempted to do so, few have done it with a combination of strategic and creative flair'.

Mr. George Mensah-Asante, Executive Director for Domestic Banking and Mr. Daniel Kasser Tee, the Head of Communications and Public Relations of Ecobank received the awards on behalf of the bank
