Hundreds Celebrate In Upper East

By Ghanaian Chronicle

By William N-lanjerborr Jalulah, Bolgatanga

Hundreds of NDC supporters and sympathisers in the Upper East Region on Sunday poured onto the streets in celebration, soon after the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, declared Mr. John Dramani Mahama President-elect.

Though some of the supporters had started jubilating before the official declaration by the EC Chairman, the real celebration started spontaneously in all the towns and villages after the official declaration.

Fully clad in NDC paraphernalia, especially in Bolgatanga, the jubilant supporters celebrated until dawn of Monday. Most of them rode their motorbikes and displayed their riding skills to the admiration of onlookers.

All the main streets were saturated with the supporters, who, at a point, put the lives of other road users at risk, as some of them disregarded traffic rules. They later converged at the main intersection near the taxi rank.

Most of the chop bars and drinking spots were full to capacity, and did not close on Sunday night. Checks at these places showed that people ate and drank throughout the night, with all kinds of music, including the campaign songs of the NDC.

Some also carried chop boxes with the inscriptions, 'Free senior high school is dead', and 'Chasing elephant into the bush'. They also carried cassette recorders on their shoulders and playing funeral songs by way of mourning what they said was the 'death of the NPP'.

On Monday, some school children carried 'vuvuzelas' to school to celebrate the victory of the NDC.

Our sources in other towns and villages across the region said the mood in those areas was not different. As if that was not enough, the celebration continued the following day throughout the region.

Love is one's passionate ability and willingness to inexplicably give up one's life for another.
