NO ALLOWANCE,NO VOTE!NO LIGHT NO VOTE!!

NO ALLOWANCE,NO VOTE!NO LIGHT NO VOTE!!
03.12.2012 LISTEN

Recently, there have been numerous demonstrations going on in some College of Educations to register their grievances as their allowances for some months has not been paid. Schools such as Bechem College of Education, Akrokerri College of Education, Wesley College of education among others all joined to make their voices heard.

I visited Adansi Nkoranza, a town in the Adansi South District and also under the Akrofuom constituency, just about entering the town, i noticed a sign post with the inscription, NO LIGHT,NO VOTE,NO CLINIC NO VOTE! I talked with the Assembly member of the area who presides over ten areas all without electricity, modern toilet facilities and other basic amenities.

He told me a section of the youth erected that post and seriously they needed those amenities. People walk 3km before reaching a health post in another town.

In some of the demonstrations among the students, they held placards with the inscription, NO ALAWA,NO VOTE,NO ALAWA NO VOTE,JM PLS PAY US!

In modern day Ghana,we still have towns which are not connected to the national Grid, and we have teacher trainees demanding their allowances or else they won't vote.

Governments upon government come and go but we still have towns 'which are not part of Ghana' .Should we continue to give the national cake to some people and deprive others of it?

Students demonstrations and electorates discomfort at this point in time is not the best for our democracy.

Demonstrations and Strikes shouldn't be as if is the only language our governments understand, our leaders should make it a point to rectify anomalies when they arise immediately.

Should we be given the governments orders or conditions before they get our votes, we deserve basic amenities which we shouldn't have begged for.
