WHY: The current Millennium Developments Goals are expiring in three years. In July, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon appointed a 27-member UN High-level Panel of Eminent Persons to advise on the global development framework beyond 2015, the target date for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). President Yudoyono of Indonesia, President Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia and Prime Minister Cameron of the United Kingdom are co-chairs of the Panel, made up of civil society, private sector and government leaders.
The Panelists aim to conduct a wide variety of consultations in more than 50 developing countries. The Panel will submit its report to the Secretary-General on 31 May 2013.
Therefore, Amina.J.Mohammed is on a two-day visit to Kenya to meet UN agencies, Government, civil society and youth representatives to hear their views, experience, progress and challenges of the current MDGs as well as their priorities for the next new Sustainable Development Goals after 2015.
