Suspected armed robbers Tuesday night allegedly attacked a number of vehicles on the Asante Mampong-Jamasi road in the Ashanti Region, making away with cash and other personal belonging of the passengers.

The incident occurred on the winding 4.5km Mampong Scarp stretch of the road which is noted for armed robbery attacks.

One of the victims, Collins Adu, a driver, told the police that he had seen about six vehicles lined up while the armed men, numbering about five, robbed the occupants.

The Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Yusif Mohammed Tanko, told the Daily Graphic that no arrests had been made so far.

He appealed to members of the public with information on the suspects to make it available to the police to help investigations into the matter..

He quoted the driver as saying that his vehicle, which had eight passengers on board, had been stopped by the armed robbers.

They then ordered everyone in the vehicle to come out and robbed them of their money and mobile phones, with he (driver) losing cash of GH¢190 and a mobile phone.

ASP Tanko expressed concern over the fact that none of the victims made a report to the police that night.

According to him, it was only yesterday morning that some officials of the Agona branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) reported the incident to the District Police Commander at Mampong.

The PRO indicated that had the victims reported the case to the police on the night of the attack, a police patrol team would have moved in to save the situation.

According to him, the attack by the robbers occurred a few minutes after the patrol team had left the area for other stretches of the road.

He used the opportunity to appeal to the public not to hesitate to inform the police on armed robbery attacks so that they could act accordingly.
