The government has presented 30 brand new vehicles to 30 Senior High Schools (SHS) in the Ashanti Region to boost their activities.

The vehicles included twenty-four 28-seater Eicher buses and four Mahindra double-cabin Pick Ups.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah, who handed over the vehicles to the beneficiary schools Thursday, noted that a nation without educated, skilled and well-informed citizens could not make meaningful development.

That was why the NDC government continued to undertake projects and programmes that could push the educational development to greater heights.

He emphasised that the procurement of the vehicles was a clear demonstration of government’s commitment towards addressing the challenges of the institutions.

The regional minister urged school heads to ensure that the vehicles were put to good use.

He also asked them to ensure a proper maintenance culture so that the vehicles would last long.

Dr Agyemang-Mensah mentioned the efforts being made by the Metropolitan Municipal and District Chief Executives in the region to get the problems confronting schools in their respective areas addressed and urged the school heads to always cooperate with the chief executives in that respect.

On behalf of the beneficiary school, the headmistress of Kumasi Wesley Girls High School, Madam Esi Oduro Asante, thanked the government for the support and promised that the vehicles would be put to good use.

She said the vehicles came at the right time when schools had just re-opened and there was a lot of work to be done.
