A SUSPECTED thief was last Thursday lynched by unknown assailants at Jericho, an Ashaiman suburb, and abandoned in a drain.
The deceased, Edwin Kwesi Otabil alias Papa Shango, a 19-year-old resident of Zenu near Ashaiman and driver's mate, was found in the gutter, tied up with electric wire.
He was said to have been found in the gutter by a resident who had gone to throw garbage in it with machete wounds on his body.
Residents had thronged the place to catch a glimpse of Papa Shango when DAILY GUIDE visited the scene.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel T. Yarkah, Ashaiman District Police Crime Officer, told DAILY GUIDE that his outfit, at about 8:30am yesterday, received a distress call from an unknown person about a body which had been found in a drain in the said area.
Crime scene investigators were immediately dispatched to the scene where they found the body of the deceased in the drain.
ASP Yarkah further noted that an examination conducted on the body of the deceased revealed several cutlass wounds which, according to district crime officer, proved that he was lynched.
According to him, the body had been conveyed to the Police Hospital morgue in Accra for autopsy as efforts were being made to apprehend the perpetrators.
Yusif Hamidu Gariba, assembly member for Nii Doku Electoral Area where the incident occurred, explained that the body of the suspect was found with the arms broken and cuts on his body, showing that he was physically attacked.
He admonished residents to desist from meting out instant justice to suspects, advising them to rather arrest and handover suspects to the police for investigations and prosecution.
