Confusion in NDC over Mahama

Confusion in NDC over Mahama

Confusion has reared its ugly head in the ruling National Democratic Congress just a couple of days to the party's emergency national delegates congress to endorse caretaker President John Dramani Mahama as the party's flag bearer for the December 7 general elections.

Some   party members and executives in the Central Region have threatened to resign and join the opposition New Patriotic Party if the delegates on Saturday go ahead to endorse President Mahama's candidature.

These party members maintain they have already written their resignation letters ready to be signed and handed over to leadership if President Mahama sails through.

According to their spokesperson, Seth Neequaye, they have resolved to say good-bye to the NDC the very day President Mahama receives the nod.

Speaking on a Takoradi-based radio station Tuesday after a press conference in the Central Region, Mr Neequaye , who also doubles as an NDC branch chairman at Edubomfreh, said the agitations against President Mahama's endorsement   stemmed from his strong opposition to the rule of law.

He contended that what Ghana needs in this democratic dispensation is a visionary leader and a believer in the rule of law but not a dictator.

Unfortunately, he said, President Mahatma's track record clearly shows he is not the man to lead Ghana now and should therefore be rejected as the NDC presidential candidate.

The NDC branch chairman reiterated that the endorsement of President Mahama as the party's flag bearer would not serve the interest of the NDC and Ghana as a whole.

“This naked truth”, he said, “is well known by the national executives who in pursuit of their parochial interest would deliberately like to impose a dictator on the people.”

When pressed by the interviewer to suggest preferred candidates for the flagbearership position, Neequaye reluctantly mentioned names like Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, Kofi Totobi-Quakyi, the Ahwois and former first lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.

To him, each of these party gurus would be better presidential materials than the 'sweet tongue' President John Dramani Mahama.
