The roles played by the National Security in the development of our nation cannot be underestimated.Apart from making sure general peace and security is maintained within the country, they also are mandated to check and to prevent illegal infiltration of foreign activities into the country.
In recent years though, the National Security in the Ketu South Constituency most especially at the Border town of Aflao have carved a bad reputation for itself in compromising the general security of Ghana. Not only did their conducts have suddenly become unpopular with the people of the town, but have actually exposed some criminal dealings within their ranks.
They help people smuggle goods including cars through unauthorised routes into the country thereby depriving the state of substantial revenues. Some also harass traders and business people through unnecessary queries, illegal payments and detentions even after appropriate officials including CEPS and the Police certify their business conducts as genuine.
Background checks of some of them are revealing and dangerously alarming.Mark Sedewodzi alias Tostao a National Security employee who was once arrested in the 90's for illegal possessing a gun is at the heart of a grand scheme of Affairs in making sure illegal activities are perpetuated across our borders.
There is also a lot of complicity in the recruitment of personnel in the service. The said Mark Sedewodzi together with Akator Korbla, another security are said to recommend foreign National for employment into the National Security.
Reliable information reveal that one Jomo,a known Togolese ex-convict is now happily employed with the National Security.
Another Togolese known only as Sammy and stationed at Segbe was last seen standing at the same platform used by former JJ Rawlings to address June 4th faithfuls at Aflao Victory Park this year.He was subsequently seen issuing security details much to the amazement and anger of those who knew him not as a Ghanaian.Few people this writer spoke to expressed so much worry about how our country's security is being seriously compromised and therefore charge authorities to thoroughly investigate the background of all these individuals involved.
