Ghanaians observe a minute's silence in honour of late President Mills

Accra, July 31, GNA - Traders and commuters around the Tema Station in Accra on Monday observed a minute's silence at exactly 1415 hours, being the exact time the late President John Evans Atta Mills passed on at the 37 Military Hospital on Tuesday, July 24.

The observance was in reverence of his immense contribution towards the nation and the development of democracy not only in Ghana but globally.

People stood still for a minute, while the loud musical instruments that had been hired by the traders for the occasion of the one week celebrations suddenly went quiet.

Although some understood the occasion, a few people seemed to be so engrossed in their businesses that they did not seem to care about what was happening around them and therefore moved about unconcerned.

Majority of the traders and commuters were clad in red and black mourning cloth with red bands around their wrists and neck to show their grief on the death of the late President Mills.

The Management and Staff of the Ghana News Agency also observed a minute silence at the same time in solidarity with the Government, the bereaved family and all Ghanaians in honour of the late President Mills.

The observance was in accordance with a government directive in honour of the late President Mills.
